Re: Matthew Reiss, "9/11 Conspiracy Theorists Spin Scenarios in Chelsea"
Review published at www.thevillager.com/villager_73/911conspiracytheorists.htmlDear Matthew Reiss, Dear Editors:
They say all publicity is good publicity. As a co-organizer of "Confronting the Evidence," the evening program held at the Manhattan Center on Sept. 11, 2004, I therefore thank you for the review in The Villager.
Since opinions are free, I won't object to your characterization of the audience as a lonely hearts' gathering, your emphasis on the more outlandish-sounding presentations, or your carefree dismissal of the powerful case for government complicity in 9/11. This was made ably during the first half of the show by Paul Thompson (on the Pakistani financial connection to the alleged 9/11 hijackers), Karl Schwarz (on Central Asian oil as a motive), retired USAF Col. Robert Bowman (on the apparent standdown of the air defense system on the day of 9/11), and in the video speech by author David Ray Griffin (on the omissions of the 9/11 Commission Report). To say nothing of the original video presentations on "The Project for a New American Century," "Obstruction and Corruption in the FBI," and "The Collapse of WTC 7." Unfortunately, in your review you chose to ignore all of these presentations except for the last.
However, I must point out that the venue seats 1200 people. During the first two hours of the program there were about 100 empty seats, most of them in the upper gallery. Please do the math, and correct the error in your lead sentence, which engages in magical thinking by suggesting that a mere "three hundred" people could have "filled the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center." Thank you.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Levis
